This is a research study that will be used to assess the safety and tolerability of an intraocular injection in patients with acute loss of vision in one eye due to recent-onset Non Artertic Ischemic Optic Neuropathy (NAION).
Currently, there is no medication to treat NAION, and once the damage is done to the eye by NAION, it is irreversible. The medication in this study has been shown to not only stop the advancement of the negative affects of NAION but also, in some cases, reverse and heal the effects. This study will also be used to determine the effect on visual function of the injection in patients with recent-onset NAION.
In addition, the study will evaluate the structural changes in the peripapillary retinal nerve fiber layer (pRNFL) and ganglion cell layer using the OCT machine following administration of the medication in subjects with recent-onset NAION.
Patients receive a remuneration for their participation.
